The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) offers scholarships to reward students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. There are four $250 awards available for the 2013-2014 academic year, which may be used at KACRAO member institutions (a list of institutions can be found on our website at http://www.kacrao.org). The scholarships will be designated as follows; one per school type: four-year public, four-year private, community college, and technical/vocational. The awards are not need-based and may be used in conjunction with other awards.
To be eligible for consideration for these scholarships, students must:
Be in their senior year at a Kansas high school;
Have a cumulative seventh semester GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale;
Have a minimum ACT composite score of 22 or SAT-I combined score of 1020
To be considered for these scholarships, the student must submit:
I. A complete application form including verification/signatures from a guidance counselor
II. A one-page essay responding to one of the following statements:
a. Describe one of your biggest accomplishments that you feel demonstrates your leadership experience.
Consider instances in which you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or
contributed to group efforts over time either in or out of school.
b. Describe the most significant challenge or major success story you have faced in your college search. If
you experienced a challenge, what steps did you take to address it? Include whether you turned to anyone
to help you face the challenge, the role that person played, and what you learned about yourself. If you
experienced a major success story, tell us who helped make it so successful, why it was a major success,
and what you learned.
III. ONE letter of reference from a school official (counselor, teacher, principal, club sponsor etc.) OR from a
community leader (business leader, employer, church leader, etc.)
IV. Resume detailing leadership experiences
Mail your completed application, essay, letter of reference, resume and guidance counselor’s verification
(together in one envelope), postmarked by May 3, 2013 to:
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications postmarked after May 3rd will not be considered.
Successful award recipients will be notified in June. Names of scholarship recipients will be posted on the
