The What’s In Outdoors Fund was created to serve those interested in getting youth and families “Outside for a Better Inside!” The fund provides a scholarship to Kansas kids interested in making a career out of environmental education, photography, journalism, communications and conserving our natural resources.

This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors in the state of Kansas who are attending a college or university in Kansas with Kansas based career goals. The student should be majoring in a wildlife or nature-based curriculum including outdoors journalism.

Applications must be sent to the Emporia Community Foundation by May 1st.

Instructions for completing application:
1. Must be resident of Lyon, Chase, Greenwood, Osage, Morris or Coffey County.
2. Application to be completed by applicant.
3. Please type or print clearly.
4. Attach the following to completed application:
a. A letter of reference from high school counselor including your current GPA OR copy of grades or
transcripts  from your College/University including current GPA
b. A biographical statement, including educational background, financial need, and other pertinent
information about yourself.

2014 W-2 Forms and other records of money earned (student/parents)

2014 untaxed income records – family child support received and/or paid, workmen’s compensation/disability income, living allowances for clergy or military (student/parents)

Most recent bank statement(s) and earning statements on non-retirement investments (student/parents)

Alien registration card (student; if not a U.S. citizen)

FAFSA PIN number (student/one parent; can be obtained prior to event at

What is the Goal?
The mission of EXCITE is to increase girls’ interests in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. This workshop is intended to inform and help prepare students for the finances of college.

Who Should Attend?
This event is designed for high school juniors and their parents, however students currently in the grades 9-12 are welcome to attend. Participants can come on their own, with their parents, or with a group of friends from school or their community.

What Will We Do?
You will participate in workshop sessions facilitated by K-State financial services about financial planning and support for college. Topics include financial aid, creating a financial plan for college, how to search for scholarships, nationally competitive scholarships, and networking with scholarship donors.
When & Where?
Tuesday, March 10th, 2015. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with sessions hosted from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All events will take place at the K-State Student Union in Manhattan, KS.

How Do I Sign Up?
To register, complete the form located on our website. Please make additional copies for each person attending. Mail in the form, along with payment (check/money order), to the address provided. Registration is on a first come first serve basis and will be limited; we will waitlist additional applicants if necessary.

KAWSE Office by 5:00 pm on March 3, 2015

What if I Have to Cancel?
Should you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible. This will allow those on the waitlist to participate. Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds except to those waitlisted applicants we cannot accommodate.
