Community scholarship opportunities
A minimum of 12 community scholarships will be awarded annually to 12 Kansas high school graduates. For information about community scholarships, please visit with your high school guidance counselor. Scholarship deadline is February 15, 2016.

Craft and plant scholarship opportunities
Craft and plant scholarships are available for individuals who wish to pursue an associate degree in electric power and distribution, power plant technology, industrial technology or other industry-related degrees in Kansas.

Scholarship awards (4 scholarships)
Award amount: $3,000 per year (renewable for 2 years)
Why pursue a degree in electric power and distribution or power plant technology?

Starting salary for lineman apprentice: $45,000
Starting salary for power plant operator: $44,000

Lineman Scholarships
Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a Kansas resident
Must be a graduating High School Senior or must have graduated the previous year
Must pursue a degree in Electric Power and Distribution in Kansas
Must be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License
Must enroll as a full-time student in a degree program (not required to be enrolled prior to scholarship award, but must be a full-time student in degree program to receive award)
Must maintain 2.5 G.P.A. during degree program
If 18 years old, must be willing to submit to a Motor Vehicle Records Check (drug free with no DUI convictions)
Program Selection Process:

Consideration for a Lineman Scholarship will be given to applicants who:

Submit a completed application and essay by March 15, 2016
Attend mandatory one-day climbing camp on April 9, 2016
Participate in a personal interview (given during camp)
Females and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply
Program Benefits:

Power Plant Operator Scholarship
Typical Jobs at a Power Plant:

Industrial mechanics, electricians, instrument & control technicians, power system operators, machinists, engineers, chemical analysis techs, clerks, rescue personnel, environmental coordinators, and analysts.

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a Kansas resident
Must be a graduating High School Senior or must have graduated the previous year
Must pursue a technical degree at a junior college or trade school for power plant technology, industrial technology, or other industry-related degrees
Must enroll as a full-time student in a degree program (not required to be enrolled prior to scholarship award, but must be a full-time student in degree program to receive award)
Must maintain 2.5 G.P.A. during degree program
Program Selection Process:

Consideration for a Power Plant Scholarship will be given to applicants who:

Submit a completed application and essay by March 15, 2016
Attend a mandatory one-day job shadow at Jeffrey Energy Center anytime between March 15 – March 31, 2016
Participate in a personal interview (given during job shadow)
