With the academic year quickly passing, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know (remind some of you) about a scholarship opportunity that a few of your college bound students might be eligible for! Many of you were contacted last year and I appreciate all of you taking the time to learn about this opportunity. As you will see from the attached brochure the KLL Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established in loving memory of Kelly Lynn Lutz who lost a 9 year battle to breast cancer in May 2008. Kelly was a teacher so education was very important to her. Kelly’s family and friends generously contributed enough money to create a permanent endowment that will provide qualified recipients with a $2,000 annual scholarship at the secondary school of their choice, renewable for up to 4 years.
What makes this scholarship unique is that it is geared toward students who have lost a parent to cancer. The financial and emotional toll that cancer inflicts on these families can never be fully resolved but hopefully a scholarship such as this will give deserving students the opportunity and hope to keep chasing their dreams of a college degree.
The board of directors of the KLL Memorial Scholarship Foundation respectfully asks for your help by sharing the attached information with any students that you feel may qualify and any other guidance counselors in Kansas, Missouri or the Kansas City metro area to help spread the word.
The application deadline for this year is January 10, 2017. The recipient will be chosen in early March 2017. For a copy of the application or if you have any questions please visit our website http://kllscholarshipfund.org/. You may also email us atShane.Lutz@hei-eng.com .
WinField is keeping the tradition of the Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program and will award a $1,000 scholarship to ten high school seniors and ten college students in his/her first or second year who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership in agriculture and a perceived ability to contribute to agriculture in the future. More information and an application are available at http://www.winfield.com in the “News” section at the bottom of the page on the left side. All applications must be postmarked by February 10, 2017.
Priority Scholarship Deadline Extension
If you know a future Wildcat who is applying for Fall 2017 admission and scholarships, we have some exciting news that we’d like you to share! The priority scholarship application deadline for incoming freshmen has been extended to December 15th, 2016. This extension is due to many reasons, including feedback from students and families, more college fairs being held later in the year than previous years and increased conversations about scholarships and the changes to the FAFSA process this year. Students are encouraged to review scholarship criteria and apply by the December 15th priority deadline for full consideration.
Students can access both the application and the contract at http://www.housing.ksu.edu. There is no deadline for contract completion, but assignments are based on the date the contract was received so students are encouraged to submit as soon as possible. The $400 initial payment is refundable until June 1st.
